When you hire a KPA-CTP , you can be assured you have hired a professional who has elected to undertake the most rigorous training program available, and who is committed to using humane, science-based training techniques.
My mission is to make sure that living with a dog is an enjoyable experience for both you and your furry friend. I understand how stressful it can be to live with a dog who doesn’t behave the way we would like at home or around other people or dogs and I also know how rewarding it is to have the company of a dog who understands what’s expected and is eager to meet those expectations. Our lives are enriched by the company of well behaved, well-adjusted dogs and the more we know and understand the individual dogs in our lives, the better equipped we are to make sure their lives are enriched as well. With a little bit of planning and training, I think you’ll be surprised how enjoyable life with your dog can be.
The Karen Pryor Academy is a world renowned professional dog training program committed to ensuring graduates have exceptional knowledge and skills in using science and behavior based teaching and training methods to make training fun and effective for people and their dogs.
To maintain recognition as a KPA-CTP, graduates must commit to participating in programs for quality assurance and continuing education. This standard is particularly important in an unregulated industry like dog training which does not require trainers to achieve any level of education or skills assessment before working with dogs and their people. Lucky for me, I absolutely love learning about animal behavior so it is no problem to meet that continuing education requirement! You can see just a few of the other certifications and courses I have completed at the bottom of this page. I continue to attend conferences, enroll in certification programs, and learn from other trainers.
I am committed to using the most up to date, humane training techniques to teach you and your dog so that you can better enjoy your lives together and I follow the Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) approach when working with dogs and their humans. That means you can expect training sessions to focus on setting the environment up to meet the needs of the dogs and humans in the home and teaching your dog what you would like them to do and reinforcing those desired behaviors. Oftentimes, just tweaking the environment a bit, and/or spending a little time teaching your dog a few really solid behaviors that have been heavily reinforced can help you see improvement in behavior.
